recovering from hurricane sandy. good morning, and welcome to "news4 today." i'm eun yang. >> and i'm aaron gilchrist. that storm arrived overnight, dropping snow from new jersey to massachusetts. it's only adding to the misery for people who haven't had power or gas for 11 days because of sandy. t the whipping winds, pounding surf stunned people in oyster bay. some are now wondering if power will be restored by thanksgiving. >> north of there in connecticut, drivers are dealing with treacherous road conditions. police say two traffic deaths may be related to the storm. a car collided with a jackknifed crush, and in lebanon, another car overturned. the coastal storm is expected to dump as much as a foot of snow in parts of new england. tom kierein now is tracking that storm. good morning to you. >> a near miss for us thankfully, because it is a powerful coastal storm, almost like a hurricane. in fact, it had hurricane force winds yesterday afternoon. and now it's just sort of stalled out and spinning away here, just south of nantucket. and they're still getting bands of heavy snow from main
shortly after sandy ravaged new york city and crews were responding to thousands of calls. kerr apparently wasn't even home at the time. he was in albany. >>> no major concern about rhett roadways around our area. 41 degrees to get things started. tom kierein is here with our forecast. >> all i've got to say is whew, what a good thing it missed us. it's still spinning just south of nantucket. it's kind of slowing down and stalling out. actually, just in the last couple radar updates, looks like it may be drifting a little to the northwest. it has been pounding new jersey, new york, most of new england with heavy snow. many locations in connecticut have had ten, 11, 12 inches of snow, wind-driven with 60-mile-an-hour winds, and now thankfully the snow has ended. eastern long island and up into new england, they're still getting bands of heavy snow, that stretches all the way up into maine and eastern canada. this storm system is looking like a hurricane spinning away here. here's nantucket. it's just south of nantucket in martha's vineyard. there's cape cod. it does look like it may be tryi
of the country that are still cleaning up after hurricane sandy. snow and high winds could pose problems for areas hard hit by the storm, especially for people who don't have power or heat in their home. >> let's get the check on the weather now. here's storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein. >> good morning. 6:41. that coastal storm we've been advertising, it's a reality, a deep area of low pressure way of 0 the atlantic seaboard. gusts of wind way off the coast from atlantic city to ocean city around 20 to 25. we've got gusts in some of the buoys off the bay up to 30 miles an hour. some of the sprinkles trying to reach the ground in southeastern washington, southern suburbs. maybe some snow trying to fall out of the sky in montgomery and howard company. upper 30s to around 40 degrees in these areas of medium blue. that's going to make a difference in accumulation later in the day as rain changes to snow this afternoon. cold air gets injected, and we'll have occasional light to moderate wet snow this afternoon into this evening. accumulating on grassy areas. i'll tell you how much and w
